2011

After 4 seasons with the Weyburn Beavers, 1 as the Assistant and 3 as Head Coach, Terry Smith has stepped down to take over the family business back home in Pocola, Oklahoma. On behalf of myself and the entire Beavers organization I would like to take this opportunity to thank Terry for his years of service to the Weyburn Beavers and the community of Weyburn; his dedication, hard work and friendly down home personality will be missed by all.

We wish you all the best in this new phase of your life.

Beavers' executive have gone through the process of listing the job vacancy and have been taking applications for the last month. We have completed the interview process and I would like to introduce Angelo Nicolosi as Head Coach of the Weyburn Beavers Baseball Club.

Coach Nicolosi is currently in his 4th year coaching at Tallahassee Community College, in Tallahassee, Florida. He has also been the Head Coach of a summer league team, the Rockville Express, in the Cal Ripken Summer Collegiate League the past 2 summers.

He has also an extensive background conducting youth baseball camps all across the USA and in Italy as well.

His playing career included 2 seasons as a Player Coach in a professional baseball league in Torino, Italy.

Coach Nicolosi will bring a tremendous amount of passion, enthusiasm and strong background of coaching college athletes to the Beavers and, in his own words, Coach Nicolosi said "I'm a team player in every sense of the word and given the opportunity to become part of Weyburn's Baseball tradition, I will represent the organization by maintaining a professional attitude and setting an example with respect.

Beavers look to alumni for the vacant Assistant Coach position
The Weyburn Beavers would like to announce the signing of Gord Gateman as Assistant Coach for the 2011 season. Primarily he will assume the role of Pitching Coach along side of 3 year Head Coach Terry Smith.

Gord originates from Owen Sound, Ontario, where he graduated from high school. He attended Kellogg Community College in Battle Creek, Michigan, for two years before heading to St. Joseph’s College in Rensselaer, Indiana, for the next three years. He majored in psychology with a minor in early childhood education. Gord held the starting pitcher role at both schools and picked up the Scholar Athlete of the year award as a senior at St. Joseph’s.

He pitched for the Weyburn Beavers during the 2008 season. During that season Gord had 11 starts and in 65.2 innings of work he complied a 3.29 ERA with a record of 3 wins and 2 looses walking only 17 while striking out 66. He also represented the Weyburn Beavers in the WMBL All Star game in Okotoks.

He suffered an elbow injury at the end of his senior year but returned to the Beavers for the 2009 season but unfortunately the injury spelled the end of his pitching career. Since graduating he has been living in Weyburn working in the carpentry business.

Gord is a student of the game and is looking forward to taking on the challenge of Pitching Coach for the Beavers and giving back to the sport of baseball in his adopted community of Weyburn.

Beaver Baseball is right around the corner!
The temperature is rising, the grass is green, and this can only mean one thing – Beaver Baseball is right around the corner! With the new year comes a positive outlook for the 2011 Weyburn Senior Beavers season. Helping to build on last year’s successful season are three returning local players. These players each have three or more years of experience in the WMBL. Jon Neuberger will be returning with the most experience of the trio, coming into his fourth year with the Beavers. Jon batted .325 last year for the Beavers, with 50 hits and 32 RBIs. He will once again be manning the two middle infield positions for the Beavers in 2011. Derek Wallace is coming into his third year with the Beavers. He will be hitting in the heart of the batting order and receiving balls at first base. Derek batted .309 last year with 3 HRs and 32 RBIs. Brad Weisgerber is also coming into his third year with the Beavers. He has been a staple in the Beavers’ bullpen for the past two seasons, and will be looking to add to his previous success this season. These three returning players will be looked upon as key leaders for the 2011 Weyburn Senior Beavers, and will hopefully help carry the Beavers deeper into the playoffs this upcoming year.
